As a retired DEA Special Agent and seasoned consultant, Chris Cayce offers prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys unparalleled insight into drug trafficking cases. As an experienced law enforcement professional, his ability to see cracks or holes in cases where questions need to be answered is one of his specialties. Over the course of Agent Cayce’s 33 years of Federal service, which includes military and firefighter careers, he led teams in a multifaceted approach to law enforcement, which included spearheading cyber and dark Web investigations, conducting intricate financial analyses, and working at all levels of drug trafficking cases from street to international enterprises. Chris’ last assignment involved building target packages and providing direct support to DEA enforcement groups to develop viable cases involving multiple criminal organizations. Chris also earned a DEA Instructor certification, a testament to his ability to teach complex law enforcement and investigative protocols to others.
Agent Cayce’s expertise extends to critical, often-overlooked aspects of a case. As a former DEA evidence custodian, he possesses a deep understanding of evidence integrity and the chain of custody, enabling him to meticulously review case files for procedural vulnerabilities. Chris’ experience also includes work on DEA diversion cases, where he focused on the illegal movement of pharmaceuticals from legitimate sources into the illicit drug trade. Furthermore, Agent Cayce became an expert in cases involving drug/cash seizures at major airports and the legal distinction between a consent stop and reasonable suspicion, while observing and investigating civil rights violations during airport interdiction operations. His ability to explain how task forces work within DEA and how they utilize Postal Services, IRS and HSI to understand the inner workings of how complex drug cases are conducted is invaluable.
This unique combination of law enforcement knowledge, intelligence, and investigative techniques provides attorneys with a comprehensive, well-rounded perspective that is essential for a robust and informed prosecution or defense. Agent Cayce has also participated in both federal and state wiretap investigations and authored multiple Title III wiretap affidavits, giving him a rare and detailed understanding of this complex and often-challenged investigative tool.
Agent Cayce has been recognized for his outstanding work over the years working for DEA, specifically for his work on international criminal defendant cases, that extended into Canada and involved numerous states domestically, two of which included homicide investigations.
